Associate Senior Lecturer positions within Natural Sciences


The University of Kalmar seeks applicants for three Associate Senior Lecturer positions within Natural Sciences
The positions form part of a strategic initiative where investment and rejuvenation of fields within the faculty which have track records of high impact international research, and proven capacity to compete for external financing. The three Associate Senior Lecturer positions shall be appointed within one or more of the following fields.
Biomedicine
Biochemistry/Biotechnology
Environmental Science
Evolutionary Ecology
Marine Biology
Organic Chemistry
Physics
Zoonotic Ecology
The University of Kalmar considers the position of Associate Senior Lecturer as a step in the young scientist’s academic career. An evaluation will be carried out with the successful applicant after four years to assess suitability for promotion to a continuing position as Senior Lecturer.
The primary responsibility (80% of the position) for the successful candidates shall be required to establish and maintain a competitive research program which should include research associated activities such as participation in supervision of PhD students and preparation of proposals. Teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels and other institutional work shall comprise the remaining 20%.
Eligibility requirements are documented scientific and teaching skills as well as a PhD of relevance to one of the eight above mentioned research areas HF (The Swedish Higher Education Ordinance chapter 4, section 8a). An additional requirement is that the applicant’s research profile must be clearly linked to one of the 8 above mentioned existing fields of research and research education within Natural Sciences at the University of Kalmar.
Evaluation criteria are described in HF chapter 4, section 15. In selection of the successful candidates, primary emphasis shall be placed on the scientific merits of the candidates, where documented independent research where external funding has been awarded in competition is considered is a prerequisite. Applicants must clearly describe how their area of research will complement and strengthen the relevant field(s) of research and research education within Natural Sciences at the University of Kalmar. Furthermore, a demonstrated capacity to deliver good quality university level teaching is necessary. Documented experience of administration and good capacity for collaboration and group work are of merit.
Promotion shall follow the criteria described in HF chapter 4, section 13a and 17. Further details for conditions for promotion to senior lector are to be established by Linnaeus University.
